Auditions and Instruments

An informal audition is required for admittance to the Chamber Orchestra. Membership is open to both music and non-music majors. The ensemble is made up of students of various majors, levels, and musical experiences, so all students are encouraged to audition.

Interested students should register for MUS 1370 Chamber Orchestra prior to the audition date, but admittance is only finalized once they pass an audition. Existing students that have performed in the ensemble in previous years are not required to audition.
In the week prior to the fall semester, the director will send an email to all registered new students prompting them to sign up for a 5-minute audition slot on the date listed below.

Use of School Instruments

The Music Discipline maintains a selection of instruments for use by students. Students who need an instrument for auditions should contact Professor Simon Tillier as soon as possible after having arrived on campus. An instrument will be provided for the audition, and then permanently checked-out to those students who participate in an ensemble.

Instrument Storage: Students can store their instruments in the HFA Music Discipline area, either by using one of the student lockers provided (students should provide their own lock) or, for larger instruments, in the dedicated String Instrument Room. For more information contact Professor Simon Tillier.
