Student Teaching

Student teaching is the capstone clinical experience for our teacher candidates. It provides them with an opportunity to understand all dimensions of teaching and to apply what they have learned through coursework and field experiences leading up to the student teaching experience. All participants in the student teaching program–teacher candidates, cooperating teachers, school administrators, and university supervisors–play important roles in establishing the environment in which the candidate can demonstrate his or her ability to assume the responsibilities of a full-time teacher.

During student teaching cooperating teachers share expertise with a teacher candidate, observe activities planned and introduced by the candidate, offer advice regarding effectiveness of teaching and management techniques, and provide the support that they often need in maintaining their professional and personal well-being during this important period when they are making the transition from student to professional educator.
