Social Science Career & Graduate School Opportunities

The social science major at Morris offers a range of courses across 11 different majors, one of the widest at the Morris.

While many Morris social science graduates go into secondary school teaching, the degree is extremely versatile since you can craft your program to meet your goals. For instance, recent Morris alumni have entered the fields of:

  • Law
  • Educational administration
  • Public relations
  • Management
  • Writing
  • Library sciences

Liberal arts graduates, like those with the interdisciplinary background offered with a social science major, find employment that makes use of their skills, special knowledge, interests, and values in a wide variety of careers.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, being able to communicate ideas clearly—one of the most important outcomes of a liberal arts education—confers advantages in job search and interview situations. Recent Social Science alumni include an attorney, an education administrator, a high school dean of students, a public relations fundraiser, a secondary school principal, a volunteer program director, a librarian, and a technical writer.

Morris social science alumni also continue on to graduate work in a range of disciplines, such as athletics administration, medicine, public health, history and others, and they have entered graduate or professional programs at many universities.
